Cultivation FAQ

Direct answers to the questions we hear most often in the field, from climate tolerance and feeding to spacing, watering, and grow-cycle timing.

Does climate make a difference?

Yes, but our Bubba and White Whale lines have proven adaptable across a wide range. We have run them from 35 °F to 103 °F and seen them finish, though any extreme benefits from careful irrigation and shading. Match your management to the conditions rather than expecting the plant to do all the work.

Which fertilizer is best?

The right feed depends on your soil composition. A current soil test is the only honest starting point. Amending on habit is expensive; amending on data is profitable.

How much, and how often, should I water?

Watering is situation dependent. Media, container size, weather, and stage of growth all change the answer. The goal is even moisture without saturation, not a fixed schedule.

Can all strains be grown indoors and outdoors?

Yes. Every line we release can be run inside or outside, but the same variety will behave differently under artificial light versus full sun. Plan spacing, training, and harvest logistics for the environment you choose.

What is the best time to plant outdoors?

No later than June 1st for most U.S. hemp programs. Planting earlier gives the canopy time to build before the flowering stretch; planting later compresses the season and can push harvest into bad weather.

What is the average flower yield per plant?

Approximately one pound of finished flower per plant under typical commercial conditions. Actual results vary with environment, nutrition, and management.

How much biomass can I expect per plant?

That depends on your business model. Harvesting only the tops, taking the entire plant, or sorting smalls will each produce a different biomass total. Define your product destination before you estimate yield.

How tall and wide is the average plant?

Size depends on how long the plants are vegged. A shorter veg window keeps plants smaller and tighter; a longer veg window produces larger frames. Match veg length to your row spacing and harvest equipment.

How many seeds per acre?

We typically see commercial plantings in the range of 1,800 to 2,200 seeds per acre. The right density depends on your environment, irrigation, and harvest method.

What is the average plant spacing?

About four feet on center is common for our lines. Wider spacing can increase per-plant size; tighter spacing can increase canopy competition. Choose based on your target product and equipment.

How long is a full grow cycle?

Cycle length depends on several factors, but here is the practical outline.

Indoor: roughly 17 weeks total. Four weeks in tray, four weeks in veg, and nine weeks in flower.

Outdoor: about five months and one week from June through October. Four weeks in tray, with veg and flower driven by natural light from July into October.

Is germination lower when seeding directly into the ground?

Direct sowing usually takes about four weeks and tends to produce a lower germination rate because soil conditions, pests, and weather all affect the seed.

Starting in trays in a greenhouse for four weeks before transplanting gives a higher germination rate and a more uniform stand. Most commercial growers prefer starts for that reason.
