Origin and positioning
Pre '98 Bubba Kush is an indica-dominant hybrid that predates the Y2K era and has remained a reference point for indica lovers ever since. Its background is part folklore and part breeding-room legend: some trace it to old Afghan and Pakistani lines brought stateside in the 1980s, while others credit a happy accident in the Bubba breeding circle. We do not chase the myth. We chase the plant. Our keeper selections were made on structure, aroma, and compliance potential, then stabilized into the feminized CBD line we sell today.
What this line is
Bubba Kush Select is our improved Pre '98 Bubba Kush line, offered as feminized seed with elevated CBD and compliant THC levels. The plant keeps the compact, beautifully hued frame of the original: purple to black fade, generous trichome heads, and burnt-orange pistils. What changed is the agronomy. We selected for stronger pest and disease resistance, better powdery mildew and bud rot tolerance, and a cannabinoid profile that stays inside federal hemp limits without sacrificing the unmistakable Bubba nose.

Morphology
Medium-sized, spreading plants reach roughly 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide with an open branching structure that lets light and air reach the lower and inner flower sites. Leaves carry wide leaflets with coarsely toothed margins. The open morphology reduces the need for aggressive leaf stripping, though growers in low-light or low-airflow rooms should still remove fan leaves as needed.
Cultivation
Bubba Kush Select is straightforward to grow. The open structure improves airflow and light penetration, which helps in humid environments. We still recommend monitoring fan leaves in tight canopies. In our trials the line showed improved resistance to powdery mildew, bud rot, mites, and thrips compared with the original Bubba expressions.
Aroma and flavor
Aroma
Pungent citrus wrapped in earth, sweet herbs, and a recognizable skunky Kush presence. Many pick up coffee and spice on the back end.
Flavor
The dry flower delivers a spicy, coffee-forward profile with notes of earth, sweet fruit, and classic Kush dank. The flavor tends to linger on the palate.
